FAQs- Online Therapy in Ontario
What is online therapy and how does it work?
1
Online therapy — also called virtual therapy, telehealth counselling, or remote therapy — means meeting with a registered therapist over a secure video call from wherever you are. At Rise and Renew Therapy, sessions are conducted online across Ontario, so there's no commute, no waiting room, and no barriers to getting the mental health support you deserve. All you need is a private space and an internet connection.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
2
Yes. Research consistently shows that virtual counselling is equally effective as in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, and many other mental health concerns. Many clients actually find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own home. Rise and Renew Therapy delivers the same evidence-based, compassionate care online that you'd expect from an in-person session.
Who do you provide online therapy for?
3
Rise and Renew Therapy offers inclusive, affirming virtual therapy for adults across Ontario. We specialize in supporting first responders, healthcare workers, nurses, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and anyone navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, relationship challenges, or life transitions. Everyone deserves a safe space to heal — no matter who you are or what you're going through.
How do I book a therapy appointment online?
4
Booking is simple. Visit our online therapy booking page, choose a time that works for you, and complete a brief intake form. You'll receive a secure video link before your session. We also offer a free 15-minute consultation call so you can get a feel for the fit before committing — because the right therapeutic relationship matters.
Do you offer therapy specifically for first responders?
5
Yes. Rise and Renew Therapy provides specialized online therapy for first responders — including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, emergency dispatchers, and correctional officers. We understand the unique culture of emergency services and the weight of what you carry. You don't have to explain yourself here. This is a space built for you.
Can online therapy help with PTSD and occupational stress injury (OSI)?
6
Absolutely. PTSD therapy, occupational stress injury (OSI) counselling, and trauma-informed care are central to what we offer first responders. Using evidence-based approaches like EMDR, CBT, and trauma-focused therapy, we help you process what you've experienced and reclaim your sense of safety and self. Virtual sessions mean you can access care on your schedule — even between shifts.
Do you offer therapy for nurses and healthcare workers experiencing burnout?
7
Yes. We offer dedicated online therapy for nurses, healthcare workers, and medical professionals struggling with burnout, compassion fatigue, moral injury, and workplace stress. You spend every day caring for others — Rise and Renew Therapy is here to care for you. Sessions are available outside of standard clinic hours to accommodate shift work and irregular schedules.
What is compassion fatigue and can therapy help?
8
Compassion fatigue is the emotional and physical exhaustion that comes from caring for others in pain over time. It's extremely common among nurses, doctors, PSWs, and social workers. Symptoms include emotional numbness, detachment, irritability, and feeling like you have nothing left to give. Therapy for compassion fatigue and healthcare worker burnout can help you restore your sense of purpose, set sustainable boundaries, and reconnect with yourself.
Can I book evening or weekend therapy sessions?
9
Yes. We know healthcare schedules don't follow a 9-to-5. Rise and Renew Therapy offers flexible online therapy appointments including evenings and weekends, so you can access support without sacrificing your days off. Convenient, accessible mental health care for people who give so much to others..
Is Rise and Renew Therapy an LGBTQIA+ affirming practice?
10
I am a nurse who works shift-work, can a therapist accommodate these hours?
11
Yes — and this is something we specifically built into how Rise and Renew Therapy operates. We know that nurses on night shifts, rotating schedules, and 12-hour days cannot make a 2pm Tuesday appointment work. That's why we offer flexible evening and weekend online therapy appointments designed around healthcare schedules — not the other way around.
You shouldn't have to choose between getting sleep after a night shift and taking care of your mental health. Virtual therapy for nurses means you can book a session that fits your life — whether that's a Sunday morning, a Thursday evening, or a rare weekday afternoon between rotations.
Yes — and confidentiality is exactly why many officers choose private online therapy over department-provided resources. At Rise and Renew Therapy, your sessions are fully confidential under Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the professional standards of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Your employer, your department, your union, and your colleagues have absolutely no access to your records, your attendance, or anything discussed in session.
Unlike an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which routes through your employer's coverage, private therapy for police officers keeps your mental health completely separate from your professional life. You control everything.
Completely normal — and honestly, more common than most people admit. Finding the right therapist can sometimes feel like dating: even genuinely good therapists aren't the right fit for everyone. Specialization matters too. A therapist who is great at working with couples may not be the right person to help a first responder processing occupational trauma, or a nurse managing moral injury and shift-work exhaustion.
The fact that you're still looking — even after hard experiences — is a sign of real courage, not failure. Rise and Renew Therapy specializes in people with specific life contexts and demands. We're not a generalist practice, and that specificity is exactly why our clients often say this feels different from what they've tried before.
Are there confidential therapy options for police officers?
12
Is it normal to have tried multiple therapists and still not found the right one?
13
Absolutely and wholeheartedly yes. Rise and Renew Therapy is a 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming, gender-inclusive, and queer-positive therapy practice. You are fully welcome here — your identity is not a problem to be solved, it is a part of who you are. We provide a non-judgmental, culturally safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals, transgender and non-binary clients, queer youth, and Two-Spirit people across Ontario.
